OH NO SHE DIDN’T JUST SAY THAT?!?

It’s EARTH DAY! In honor of that I want everyone to stop using plastic bottles of water! Switch to a reusable container. Let me tell you, we switched over to a filter pitcher for our fridge and I have 28oz reusable container for my water on the go! I LOVE IT! Plus I feel that I’m doing a small part for our environment. Now, if I could only get rid of the million plastic bags I have under my kitchen sink! Does anyone else hoard plastic bags like me?? Am I the only one?? I swear I don’t even think, I physically put all of those bags under my sink, I think they started the procreate amongst themselves! So it’s true, they don’t go away, they just multiply, just like roaches!

I’m checking into some sort of group meeting for people such as myself…….who hoards plastic bags! I’ve been asking around and I haven’t found anything yet. Any info would be greatly appreciated! It’s just a big mess! I’m going to need about 10 trash bags to get rid of of the store plastic bags from shopping. WTH??? I really have to make this up to Mother Nature!

OH NO SHE DIDN’T JUST SAY THAT?!?

Hey all! I love stand-up comedy and I make sure that everyday, I do something to help myself get better and better. Even the pros, stop in their favorite club to workout new material, before it ends up on HBO! Think about it, comedians just don’t walk on stage and have that KILLER SET! It takes time and persistence of honing in on what’s going to get that audience laughing! I feel that no matter how big you may be as a performer, you should always find ways to improve yourself. Once you stop learning, you die!

When I first decided to do comedy, I found the Philadelphia Comedy Academy, which is taught by Brad Trackman, at Helium Comedy Club right in center city Philadelphia. It was only three Mondays of the month and then a graduation show, where you bring all your family and friends to see what you’ve come up with, while performing a 6-7min set.

Now that I’ve been going up to New York more, I was lucky enough to meet a great guy named Jeff Lawrence who decided to start his own comedy school. It’s called the Laughing Buddha Comedy School and it’s FANTASTIC! Jeff was only doing stand-up for a short time and started producing his own shows prior to the school and has the best team of professional and amateur comedians working for and with him! I recommend that if you’ve ever thought about doing stand-up comedy and you’re close to the New York area, that you look Jeff up and check out his industry shows, workshops, and classes. He knows the ins and outs of the industry and can get a comedian like myself, in front of bookers and agents, in some of the A comedy clubs in the city, that normally would not have that opportunity. Make sure you go to the website for his school when you get a chance, it can change your life!

OH NO SHE DIDN’T JUST SAY THAT?!?

Compliments of Michelle Teel from Maple Shade Nj, I’ve made the Burlington County Times!  The South Jersey Comedy Club where I’ve been performing since Michelle started having shows at Forno Pizzeria & Grille, has been put on the map!  Due to the popularity of these Sunday night shows, Michelle has expanded the SJCC to two other locations! Check out the article to find out more!

http://www.phillyburbs.com/news/local/burlington_county_times/bct_news_details/article/26/2010/april/16/make-em-laugh.html

Hope to see you at a show very soon!  Comedians from the Tri-State area are always there!

OH NO SHE DIDN’T JUST SAY THAT?!?

So I have a lot on my mind……..I’m not sure where to start!  I attended another great show last night at Forno Pizzeria & Grille in Maple Shade NJ, run by the South Jersey Comedy Club (SJCC)!  It was an AWESOME night, the place had 130 patrons and 28 comedians that did their thing on stage, with me included.

I officially declared myself as the “Burb Bitch”, due to the fact that I don’t have a hood pass and never had one! LOL! I was born in Camden NJ, and my parents moved us to the suburbs by the time I was 4 or 5 yrs old.  Doesn’t mean I won’t kick some ass! It just means, I’ll get your ass kicked off the PTA quicker!  This “Burb Bitch” don’t take no stuff!  I consider myself the “Condolezza of Comedy” and proud of it! There’s a reason why the ghetto is NOT described as quaint!

A lot of comedians came out to the show last night, from the Tri-State area!  Some have been doing stand-up for years and for others it may have been their first or second time.  I love it!  I love meeting all the funny and crazy people that make up my comedy community.  The only thing that irritates me is when comedians who have been doing it for years, don’t respect the fact that other performers would like to get stage time in front of a full audience too!  With so many comedians time was very important, and instead of respecting that, some arrogant performers stole time from others on the list by carrying on way after they were told their time was up!  You know to me,  it’s not about if you’re doing well on stage and people are laughing.  That’s great, that’s what we all strive for, it shows what type of person you really are when you continue to disregard someone else’s time, by staying on past your own specific time, it’s basically a big F U to all the rest of the comedians on deck!  The sad part is that it’s not even NEW material being done by comedians like this, it’s the same old shit they’ve been doing for years, knowing that it will get the laugh!  To call yourself a comedian, you need to constantly be growing and not be afraid to try new bits.  How else will you get better??  Just keep writing and never think that because certain jokes work, that now you don’t have to do anything else!  It sickens me when people just rest on their laurels, thinking there’s nothing else they could possibly improve on.  GET OVER YOURSELF! Thinking that way is going to leave you right where you’re standing……….NOWHERE!

Next show for the SJCC is on April 18th, at Bobby D’s, located on 159 S. Pemberton Rd. Pemberton Nj!  Come on out for some great laughs, food, and drinks!  The show starts at 8pm, get your seat early, this is going to be a rockin’ show!

OH NO SHE DIDN’T JUST SAY THAT?!?

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE COMEDY!  With that being said………. I’m hoping that one day we will never separate male and female comics!  I get so tired,  when I see an all male comedy show, and then if women decide to do an all female show it’s UNHEARD OF!  IT’S SUCH A DOUBLE STANDARD! Why??  There are some very well known funny comedians, who just happen to be a women!  I’ve heard people tell other female comics, “hey you’re funny, for a girl”  WHAT??? That’s ridiculous!  We should just be FUNNY period!

I honestly think that some men are insecure and feel like if he’s “out-funnied” by a woman that he’s less than.  Come on! The 1950′s are LONG gone!   Then that same comedian will get blown out of the water by a male comedian and praise HIM!  That’s NOT cool!  I know, I know, it’s a competitive industry, however that doesn’t mean that it has to be idiotic too!  What I’ve noticed is that it’s still an “old boys club” so to speak, the upside to that is when they do find a female comic they like, then you’re in!  Of course this also means that as a female, you have to be twice or maybe even three times as funny as an average male comic!  Again not right!

So I’ve figured out how to combat this……..I’m just going to do more men jokes!  So my new stuff will consist of taking craps, farting, and talking about my D#%K!  Since it seems most of the time is the only things that gets the laugh! LOL!  Nahhhhhh, just kidding, I get enough of that talk at home with my husband and son, don’t need or want to take it on stage with me!

Basically, my thoughts on this is, just be FUNNY!  Whether you’re a guy or a girl, the FUNNY will come across and they will have to hire you!  :)

OH NO SHE DIDN’T JUST SAY THAT?!?

So I love performing as some may know.  There comes a time though when some days you just want to sit and relax and NOT be ON!  Do you know what I mean??

Before I started doing stand up, I LOVED going to comedy shows as an audience member, I still do to be honest. I will still pay to go to a show.  First of all, because I think it’s only fair, if I was performing I would want people to pay to see me, and second because I have NO pull, LOL!  No one knows who I am so it’s not like I’m walking in places for free. I’ve always loved to laugh and loved going to see funny people!  Now that I’m a comedian, it seems like now people think it’s weird when I just want to sit and enjoy a show, without wanting to get stage time.  Personally I love watching,  now some of my comedy friends,  do what they do and sometimes I may have an opportunity to take the stage and I choose not to.  I think it’s ok, and at the same time, I feel like the more stage time you get as a comedian, the better you will become.  I believe right now I’m in a wonderful transition of figuring out who I want to be on stage and being the most authentic ME I can be.  I’m having so much fun and I’m hoping that the audience will have as much fun as I do!

Don’t forget to check out my events calendar to see where I will be next!  Feel free to leave your email address so I can add you to my list.  Thanks for reading!

OH NO SHE DIDN’T JUST SAY THAT?!?

So a big surprise! Not only am I a stand-up comedian, I’m also an actor! I’m doing a play which opens at the end of April. I’m very excited because I’m working with very talented actors who have been doing this for years. Our director, who has been doing theater for 35 years, is a native of Cherry Hill, NJ and now lives in Cedar Brook. Her vision for the American Farce by Michael Parker, called The Sensuous Senator, is coming to life and I’m so very happy to be a part of it!

The irony for me doing this play is that my character, is the most serious of the entire cast! I’m playing a reporter from the “National Intruder” and is all about business and catching Senator Harry Douglas in the act! Opening night is April 30th and is a very significant date for me. Opening night is my Brother Todd’s birthday who I lost too soon in 2004 to Lung Cancer. This will be a celebration for me in so many ways and I know that he’ll be with me in spirit! Check my events calendar for the dates and times of the show, which will run April 30th – May 8th 2010.

Weeks before a presidential election, Senator Henry Douglas, a smooth-talking candidate who has based his entire campaign on the issues of morality and family values is given an unusual opportunity. Arranging for his wife, Lois, to be away for the weekend, he realizes that with a little luck he may be able to break every one of his campaign promises before the votes are even counted. Once his wife is safely on her way to the airport, he invites his voluptuous secretary, Veronica, to spend the night in his Washington D.C. townhouse. To his abject disappointment, she is unavailable. He then contacts the Capitol Escort Agency, and arranges for an “escort” for the evening. Unfortunately, his neighbor, an elderly congressman, Clyde Salt, locks himself out of his townhouse and has to spend the night.

OH NO SHE DIDN’T JUST SAY THAT!?!

HEY WORLD! Yeah you! Things are really crazy out there………another horrible thing happened in New Jersey, yes besides Chris Christie being our Govenor! Apparently in a Walmart in Washington Twp. Nj someone thought it would be fun to get on the intercom system and announce, “ALL the black people leave the store.” Really??? Has it really come down to this?? In a Walmart no less……This sickens me! It’s really a sad state of affairs when you probably have some piece of poor white trash, YES I said it, poor white trash making this announcement! You know some people should really learn how to quit while they’re ahead and for the person that made the announcement, I’m sure that isn’t very far!

OH NO SHE DIDN’T JUST SAY THAT!?!

Probably one of THE best moments in my stand up experience, was when I went to see a very funny friend of mine, Alycia Cooper, who was opening for Tony Rock!  Let me just say that I could’ve  never imagined what was in store for me that night.

So the show was at Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia, it’s the place to be in Philadelphia by the way!  I love that place! The room is fantastic and everytime I was fortunate to do a show there, it’s always been a great experience!

Now back to my best moment so far…………..So I went to see Alycia and when she had to go into the green room to get ready for her feature spot, I saw Brad Trackman, who teaches the Philadelphia Comedy Academy at Helium, going in the green room.  So I said hello to Brad and asked what he was doing there, so he then said that he and Tony Rock were old friends and did I want to come into the green room to meet him.  What??? Heck yeah!  So we walk in and Brad introduces me to Tony, and then Brad mentions to Tony that I was one of his students and that I am very funny.  Thanks Brad!  That however was not the best moment EVER!  The best moment came when Tony Rock said, “well let’s give her five minutes!”  Huh??? Now let me remind you that the feature, Alycia Cooper is already on stage doing her set and now Tony says I’m gonna go up after her and right before HIM! What??? LOL!  I couldn’t believe it! So long story short(too late) I went up did my five minutes and thanked Tony over and over again!  I was pretty speechless that he would ever give me that opportunity!

What Headliner do you know, that would do something like that for a person that had only been doing comedy for UNDER  a year at that time, and that he had never seen before???  HE’S AMAZING! I was already a fan of his before this went down, and after………I WAS TRULY IN LOVE! LOL!  Not like that!  Seriously just respecting him that much more, to give someone a shot!  Let me just say, when I walked back into the green room, I shook his hand and he said, “good set!”  WOW! I’ll take it!  That was a definite highlight of my comedy career so far!  Plus after the show people came up to me and told me they thought I was funny and that they enjoyed my set! Wow!  More to come about Tony soon! I have more great stories……I love comedy!
